Welcome to the Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt! If you’ve just discovered the hunt, be sure to start at Stop #1, and collect the clues through all the stops, in order, so you can enter to win one of our top 5 grand prizes!
- The hunt BEGINS on 3/19 at noon Mountain Time with Stop #1 at LisaBergren.com.
- Hunt through our loop using Chrome or Firefox as your browser (not Explorer).
- There is NO RUSH to complete the hunt—you have all weekend (until Sunday, 3/22 at midnight Mountain Time)! So take your time, reading the unique posts along the way; our hope is that you discover new authors/new books and learn new things about them.
- Submit your entry for the grand prizes by collecting the CLUE on each author’s scavenger hunt post and submitting your answer in the entry form at the final stop, back on Lisa’s site. Many authors are offering additional prizes along the way!
Hey there! I’m Lynette Eason, and I write the kind of books that’ll keep you up way past your bedtime—romantic suspense with a healthy dose of danger, faith, and swoon-worthy heroes. I’ve written over 70 novels (yes, really!), including series like Lake City Heroes, Danger Never Sleeps, Elite Guardians, Blue Justice, and Extreme Measures. I’ve been blessed to hit the New York Times bestseller list and others and snag a few awards along the way. When I’m not throwing my characters into life-threatening situations, you can find me hanging out with my family in South Carolina or dreaming up my next edge-of-your-seat story. Come connect with me on social media—I’d love to chat! You can find me on:
My newest release is a Romantic Suspense novella colletion with Dani Pettrey set in Colorado. Here’s what it’s about:
Speaking of Avalanches, I learned so much researching this story. Here are the top 10 things I learned:
- Most victims trigger their own avalanche. Around 90% of avalanche fatalities involve slides triggered by the victim or someone in their group, not random natural releases.
- They can exceed 200 mph. Large powder avalanches can reach speeds over 200 miles per hour—faster than a speeding train—making outrunning one virtually impossible.
- The “loud noise” trigger is mostly myth. Despite movie scenes showing someone yelling and causing a slide, avalanches require significant physical stress to release. A shout doesn’t produce nearly enough force.
- You have about 15 minutes. Survival rates drop dramatically after 15 minutes of burial due to suffocation from CO2 buildup in the air pocket around your face.
- Avalanche debris sets like concrete. Once the snow stops moving, it compacts almost instantly. Victims often can’t move even a finger, which is why self-rescue is nearly impossible.
- The most dangerous slopes are 30-45 degrees. This “sweet spot” is steep enough for snow to slide but gentle enough to accumulate deep, unstable layers—and it’s also prime terrain for skiing and snowboarding.
- Slab avalanches are the deadliest type. These involve cohesive plates of snow breaking loose all at once, unlike loose-snow slides that start at a single point.
- Trained dogs can locate buried victims in minutes. One avalanche rescue dog can search an area that would take 20 people with probe poles several hours.
- Avalanches have a “staple” season. Most fatal avalanches occur between December and April, with February and March being peak months in the Northern Hemisphere.
- Terrain traps multiply the danger. Gullies, trees, and cliff bands can concentrate debris into deeper burials—a small slide in the wrong spot can be just as deadly as a massive one.
